ok, so i went out to get some nerd cred points last night.  i picked up the original Star Wars Trilogy Limited Edition complete with unaltered theatrical versions of the films on the day it was released.  now, i didn’t wait in line for hours in freezing weather, nor did i dress up or anything.  i just walked in and picked it up, so deduct points where you may on that one.  i walked in about 8:45pm and it was the last one on the table.  it came in a special “collectors tin” and all three movies had their own  case and has two discs.  The Limited Edition disc and the Bonus Material disc(aka the REAL version). check out the pics here.

    theatricalrelease

here is the proof.  Original theatrical Movies!  Apparently George didn’t want to spend any time polishing up the worthless pieces of crap he sees in the original movies.  so these “original theatrical movies” are apparently the LaserDisc prints that were released when LaserDisc was the next best thing.  I haven’t been able to watch them yet(subtract more nerd points) but i’m sure they’ll be a little bit fuzzier than we’re accustomed to.  anyway, whatever.

i’d like to take a moment for George.  because i feel for him.  imagine how it must feel to have a creation of yours loved and hated so much simultaneously.  by the same people no less.  i can’t even imagine.  you’ve got people who spend hours upon hours devoted to this story, anyone would die for that, but then you get the same people trying to dictate what’s wrong and right.  now, i know how much of a struggle releasing these theatrical versions must’ve been for George.  here, we’ve got some of his first films.  made back in the budget days when his FX dept. had a stock of popsicle sticks and fishing line.  i know what it’s like to watch something you created.  all you can see are faults.  i’m sure that George cannot sit through the whole original movie.  it would be too painful.  all he would see were rookie mistakes, shoddy FX, missed story points.  he tried to leave that all behind after CG came out.  “i’ll just fix ‘em” he said to himself.  and so the world loved it, but only for a little.  “wait a second, Greedo shot first! that changes everything!”  suddenly, backlash.  “you don’t know what you’re doing George! leave ‘em alone!”  suddenly the beloved inventor was judged for his decisions.  now the public is throwing his hours of redevolopment and righting wrongs back in his face.  “we want the originals!”  what he hears is “we want that nasty first draft!  you hit your peak at the beginning! you’re no longer worth anything!”  i’m sorry George, i’m sorry.
