  • Watch Out, I’ve Gone Pro

Yep, I upgraded to Flickr Pro.  It made me feel strangely awesome.  No limits! No limits! I’ve been a casual user of Flickr for a while now.  The limits they have our fairly roomy and are surprisingly good for a free account.  You have a cap on upload bandwidth per month and you’re limited to 200 photos with two sets.  It kept me happy for a year or more, but lately we’ve been taking a lot of pictures, and the 200 photo limit was confining.  They never delete your photos they just stop showing the early ones when you go beyond 200.  Having those early photos lopped off was just too much so I took the affordable plunge.  And boy was it worth it.  Flickr really is a great service and I am very pleased.  Having this grand technology also encourages to make better use of my Canon DigitalElph.  Check out the collection.

And check out my special collection of desktop wallpaper. Hopefully to be updated more often and with more size options.

  • I am the Terror that Flaps in the Night!

Some friends recently hooked me up with some Darkwing Duck DVDs and oh man, I’ve forgotten how amazing the show was.  DD was one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid.  I was afraid it’d be one of those experiences where you remember something being really awesome as a kid and then when you experience it as an adult it is lame.  Not so.  Oh man, it is still truly awesome.  Anyways, whilst watching the adventures of Drake and Launchpad I whipped out my trusty ibook and made a little Darkwing snack.  Check it:

  • 46 great lists of Ten great resources for Lists

Ok, I understand the value of a list.  Lists are cool, they’re helpful.  But please for Rick‘s sake can you please tone it down a bit?  The one great value to lists that I see is this:  Someone has taken the time to weed out the crap and find the quality stuff so I don’t have to, saving me time and money.  When I see a list of anything over ten I think “how can they all be good?  Did anyone take out the bad stuff?”  And lists of lists? Oh man, what’s the point?  Take this list for example.  There is a total of at least 179 items in this thing. If I spend 1 minute looking at each item that’s almost 3 hours.  What the heck!?!?  Do you really think I’m going to sit down and pore over every site, just because it is in a list of things?

What I’m whining about is efficiency and productivity.  A list can be an amazing thing if it is carefully constructed and edited.  You can always tell when someone has put things in the list just to make it longer.  Making short and helpful lists will get way more attention because they will actually be useful.

  • Dear Friend I am a staff of one of the leading banks in South Africa

Why are there so many spammers in the world?  Because there are so many gullible and ignorant people on the internet.  It is so easy to lead people astray and convince them of something totally bogus.  The sad thing is that there is little out there to educate people about how to spot phishing scams and whatnot.

Luckily there’s McAfee SiteAdvisor.   This site offers great info on almost any site you’ll go to.  They sign up for whatever the site has to offer and let’s you know how many emails they get from it.  It also evaluates the safeness of the sites and downloads it links to.  They also collect user comments and reviews.  And best of all they provide a plugin for Firefox (which you use if you know what’s good for you) that lets you see a site’s safety while you’re looking at it or on the Google search results page.

They also just made this.  It’s a test to see how savvy you are about scams on the internet.   It’s a very good test and pretty enlightening I’d say to those who aren’t sure what phishing is.  Just so you know I got 10 out of 10 correct, earning me the title of “Safety Guru.”  Yeah, I’m pretty proud.  Anyways, you should take it.

Another handy resource for calling out scams is Snopes.com.   It’s a great place where they try to debunk just about anything from spam to urban legends, although it’s own integrity has been called out before.

Browse safe.  And don’t forget to wear your Hawaiian Shirt tomorrow.

  • When you live, you gotta live large

The ballast has come down, it’s left me aimless and afraid.
That’s not how I was made.
My head inside my knees, if I can’t think, then I can’t breathe.
I just want to leave this place at last.

When you live, you gotta live large.
Let the world know who’s in charge.
There will never be a better time than now.
Never better than now. Finally changed my number, keep the calls from coming in.
    I’m just not interested.
The medicines not working, but I’m feeling the effects
from all the side effects warned on the box.
    I’m left here wondering.
Was there poison in the sting that pierced my heart,
    cause I feel momentarily paralyzed.
But I get back on the horse and correct my current course.
Cause I have run aground, yes I have let you down. Cause I have run aground,
yes I have let you down.
When you talk, you gotta talk fast.
Your next breath may be your last.

The road’s been winding down now for a while. Never better than now…
